Surface Preparation
Bare Steel
- Wire brush or sandblast surface until shiny and clean.
- Wipe surface clean with lint-free cheesecloth, rag, or tack cloth dampened with a dewaxing solvent.
- Allow solvent to flash.
- Tape off.
- Apply TotalBoat Rust Primer.
Rusted Metal
- Remove all accumulated dirt, grease, loose paint, and rust flakes with a wire brush or sanblaster.
- Wipe surface clean with lint-free cheesecloth, rag, or tack cloth dampened with a dewaxing solvent.
- Allow solvent to flash.
- Tape off.
- Apply TotalBoat Rust Primer.
Application
- Apply TotalBoat Rust Primer by brush or spray bottle.
- Allow it to dry. As the Rust Primer dries, the metal will turn darker to almost black, indicating the chemical change of the rust to an inert state.
- Use wire brush to remove any dried residue. If any white, powdery spots are visible, that is normal. Simply remove these spots with a wire brush.
- Repeat application steps 1-3 if needed.
- Surface will be ready for metal primer.
