Surface Preparation

Bare Steel

1. Wire brush or sandblast surface until shiny and clean.
2. Wipe surface clean with lint-free cheesecloth, rag, or tack cloth dampened with a dewaxing solvent.
3. Allow solvent to flash.
4. Tape off.
5. Apply TotalBoat Rust Primer.

Rusted Metal

1. Remove all accumulated dirt, grease, loose paint, and rust flakes with a wire brush or sanblaster.
2. Wipe surface clean with lint-free cheesecloth, rag, or tack cloth dampened with a dewaxing solvent.
3. Allow solvent to flash.
4. Tape off.
5. Apply TotalBoat Rust Primer.

Application

1. Apply TotalBoat Rust Primer by brush or spray bottle.
2. Allow it to dry. As the Rust Primer dries, the metal will turn darker to almost black, indicating the chemical change of the rust to an inert state.
3. Use wire brush to remove any dried residue. If any white, powdery spots are visible, that is normal. Simply remove these spots with a wire brush.
4. Repeat application steps 1-3 if needed.
5. Surface will be ready for metal primer.
