TotalBoat FixWood epoxy putty is designed for high-strength, 100% waterproof, permanent repairs to rotted or damaged wood. Great for use on non-structural elements such as wooden door frames, windowsills, deck boards, and trim. Fills screw holes without shrinking and does not sag on vertical surfaces. Easy to sand, machine, or fasten. Can be tinted, painted, stained or varnished to match surrounding wood. FixWood can be used on interior or exterior applications.

SURFACE PREPARATION SOLVENT: Acetone, denatured alcohol

CLEANUP: Use acetone or denatured alcohol before it has cured. Once cured, it must be mechanically removed.

THINNER/REDUCER: Do not thin this product.

SAFETY AND PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Use nitrile or latex gloves when dispensing, mixing, and applying this product. Always use proper safety equipment, clothing, and PPE in accordance with the Safety Data Sheet for this product and any surface preparation materials. Use this product with adequate ventilation.

Surface Preparation

Surface Preparation for Wood:

• Areas of wood that are punky or soft from rot or dry rot should first be treated and stabilized with TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy.
• The surface must be clean, dry, and free of any grease or oil before applying TotalBoat FixWood.
• In the area that is to be treated, sand the wood with 60- to 120-grit sandpaper.
• Remove any sanding residue before applying FixWood.

Application Conditions

• Apply FixWood when the ambient temperature, product’s temperature, and the substrate’s temperature are all between 50-100°F and 0-90% relative humidity.
• The optimal temperature range is between 70-80°F
• Do not apply this product when dew, rain, snow, or other environmental contaminants may be present, as they may affect the cure of this product.

Application

IMPORTANT! Always wear disposable nitrile or latex gloves when mixing and applying TotalBoat FixWood.

Mixing:

Dispense at the rate of 1 part FixWood PART A - RESIN with 1 part PART B - HARDENER by volume. Do not add extra resin or hardener.

• Dispense as much FixWood as can be applied within 20-30 minutes.
• Mix by hand until the putty achieves a consistent color, without any resin- or hardener-rich areas. Mix only as much material as can be used in 20 minutes.

Application:

Apply and mold by hand or with tools, as desired.

• When filling holes or gouges, work the TotalBoat FixWood into the cavity as much as possible to displace any air, and overfill the cavity so it can be sanded smooth after.
• FixWood will be tack free in 2 hours and can be sanded in as little as 6 hours at 70°F. Under cooler conditions it will have slightly longer working and cure times, in warmer conditions the working time and cure time will be slightly quicker.
• The full cure time is 5-7 days depending on temperature.

Tinting (If Desired):

FixWood can be tinted by adding a small amount of TotalBoat Pigment Dispersions to the putty after both parts have been uniformly mixed together.

• Pigment Dispersions are very concentrated. Start with a very small amount at first.
• Knead until the color is uniform in color.
• Add more of the dispersion as necessary and knead achieves the desired color.

Applying Coatings to FixWood:

Once sanded, FixWood can be painted, primed, varnished, or stained.

• This product should always be coated with a paint, varnish, or clear coat for outdoor applications.

Staining

• When applying a stain, it is strongly recommended to always perform a test sample to see if it achieves the desired appearance before attempting the remainder of the project.
• For best results, sand in the direction of the grain using 180- or 220-grit sandpaper then remove any sanding residue.
• Apply the stain to the piece as directed.

Storage

Storage: Keep tightly sealed in the original containers. Store locked up in a well-ventilated place between 60-80°F.
