Surface Preparation
- If applying to teak that has a gray appearance, clean the teak with TotalBoat Teak Cleaner, as directed, then sand smooth in the direction of the grain with 220-grit sandpaper.
- Vacuum away any sanding dust and wipe any residue with a tack cloth. Follow with a clean, lint-free cotton rag dampened with denatured alcohol, and allow to dry.
- If the teak is in good condition, with a natural golden appearance, sand smooth in the direction of the grain with 220-grit sandpaper.
- Vacuum up the sanding dust, wipe away any residue with a tack cloth, then follow with a clean, lint-free cotton rag dampened with denatured alcohol.
Application
- Stir the product thoroughly. Apply by brush or wipe on with a clean, lint-free cotton rag.
- Allow 20-30 minutes for TotalBoat Danish Teak Sealer to penetrate, then wipe off any excess sealer with a clean, lint-free cotton rag.
- Apply two coats to new wood, or one coat for seasonal maintenance.
- Allow to dry for 8-12 hours between coats.
- Scuff lightly with a Scotch-Brite™ pad before recoating to ensure adhesion, consistency, and penetration.
Maintenance
- Clean the surface with boat soap and water.
- Maintenance coats will vary by location. Some locations may need maintenance on a monthly basis, and others will need it yearly. Reapply as needed, or when the rich, natural teak color begins to fade.
Danger!!
Rags, steel wool, or waste soaked with paint, teak oils, or solvents may spontaneously catch fire if discarded improperly. Immediately after use, place rags, steel wool, or waste in a sealed, water-filled metal container.
