TotalBoat MakerPoxy Crystal Clear Artist’s Resin by Jess Crow
- Ultra-clear, glossy, durable epoxy system for makers and artists
- Preferred for artwork, furniture, wood, plastic, fiberglass, and metal projects
- Easy to use, self-leveling, and can be tinted with pigments that blend and flow easily
TotalBoat MakerPoxy is a professional-grade, crystal-clear epoxy system formulated for artists, makers, woodworkers, and DIYers. It provides excellent UV resistance, clarity, and hardness while maintaining an extended working time ideal for art and craft applications. Perfect for coatings, resin art, small castings, and surface finishing.
Surface Preparation
- Ensure all surfaces are dry, clean, and free of dust, dirt, oil, or grease.
- Lay down plastic sheeting under and around your work area to collect any spills.
- Do not use paper, as epoxy can be absorbed through it.
Mixing
- Mix only as much as can be applied in 20 minutes for best results.
- Combine 1 part RESIN (Part A) and 1 part HARDENER (Part B) by volume (1A:1B), or 100A:84B by weight.
- Do not alter mix ratios, as this will affect cure and final properties.
- Mix thoroughly for 2–3 minutes, scraping sides and bottom.
- Pour into a clean second container and mix an additional 2–3 minutes.
- Epoxy dyes, colorants, or special effects additives may be added before pouring.
Working Time:MakerPoxy has a long working time of up to 60 minutes, depending on mass, temperature, and thickness.
Application
- Pour the mixed epoxy onto the substrate and level with a spreader.
- Ideal working temperature: 70–80°F.
- Bubbles will rise naturally; use a heat gun or hair dryer, waving quickly to prevent burning, 2–3 times every 10 minutes to remove them.
- Do not exceed 1/8"–1/4" per pour for large projects to prevent overheating or yellowing.
- For best results, apply in multiple layers, also called step pouring.
- When the previous layer is firm but still soft enough to indent with a fingernail, typically 4–8 hours after application, apply the next layer directly.
- If the previous layer has fully cured, scuff lightly with a Scotch-Brite™ pad and clean before recoating.
Thinning & Cleanup
Do not thin TotalBoat MakerPoxy.
- Scrape up and remove any uncured material.
- Clean uncured epoxy with denatured alcohol, lacquer thinner, or acetone.
- Cured epoxy must be removed mechanically.
Colorants & Dyes
Epoxy dyes, colorants, and special effects additives may be added to customize appearance. Always use colorants designed for epoxy and perform a small test before use on larger projects.
Step Pouring
- Use multiple pours for best clarity and reduced heat buildup.
- Allow the previous layer to reach a soft cure before pouring the next layer, typically 4–8 hours at 77°F.
- If the surface is fully cured, lightly scuff with a Scotch-Brite™ pad, remove sanding residue, and apply the next coat.
Cure Times
- Tack-Free Time (1/8"–1/4" @ 77°F): 4–6 hours
- Sandable: 8–10 hours
- Full Cure: 5–7 days @ 77°F
Important: Do not place items hotter than 110°F on cured MakerPoxy surfaces.
Exothermic Reaction Warning
Mixing resin and hardener together produces an exothermic reaction that generates heat. The larger the batch, the hotter it will get. Mix smaller quantities to control temperature and prevent overheating.
Safety & Handling
- Work in a well-ventilated area.
- Wear gloves, eye protection, and appropriate clothing.
- Avoid skin and eye contact; wash thoroughly after handling.
- These products may cause allergic reactions — consult Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for details.
Storage
- Store at 60–90°F in a dry location.
- Seal containers immediately after use.
- Keep off cold floors and away from exterior walls during winter.
- Do not use material that shows signs of crystallization until it has been re-liquefied.
- To restore crystallized epoxy, warm to 140–150°F and stir until clear.
