The maximum pour depths for the various TotalBoat resin systems are listed below. Note that the pour depths are different not only for the different resins, but also for the various hardener speeds within certain systems.
To avoid excess exotherm and an improper cure, it's important not to exceed the maximum pour depth for the particlar resin system you're using. Common problems associated with pouring mixed resin more thickly than recommended include potential yellowing, cloudiness, surface waves, cracking, shrinkage, swirls and improper cure.
TotalBoat Resin System | Maximum Pour Depth, Per Layer |
High Performance 2:1 Epoxy - Slow** |
|
High Performance 2:1 Epoxy - Medium | 1/8" |
High Performance 2:1 Epoxy - Fast | Less than 1/8" |
Traditional 5:1 Epoxy - Slow | Less than 1/8" |
Traditional 5:1 Epoxy - Fast | Less than 1/8" |
Traditional Crystal Clear Epoxy | Less than 1/8" |
Traditional Tropical Extra Slow Epoxy | Less than 1/8" |
TableTop Epoxy | 1/8" - 1/4" |
MakerPoxy Artist's Resin | 1/8" - 1/4" |
ThickSet Clear Casting Epoxy | 1/2" per layer of epoxy for river pours, slab pours; 1" for smaller castings using less than 16 oz. of epoxy |
Fathom Deep Pour Clear Casting Epoxy | 3" for larger castings, and up to 2" deep for epoxy river tables, slab pours, and live edge tables |
Cast N Turn Clear Urethane Casting Resin | 3" for up to 16 oz. of mixed material; when pouring more than 16 oz. in a single pour, the maximum depth is 2'' |
**NOTE: For 2:1 Slow Hardener maximum pour depth: Helping to dissipate heat from the cure will generally promote a more clear, smooth surface. If heat is not allowed to dissipate sufficiently from a mold or casting, it is still possible for pours, even with these guidelines, to generate enough heat to result in an imperfect surface or a slight yellow cast in the cured surface.
