TotalBoat two-part epoxy systems have an epoxy resin component (Part A) and a hardener component (Part B), and each system requires a specific mix ratio that must be used in order for the epoxy to cure properly. A mix ratio lets you know exactly how much epoxy resin and hardener to dispense, either by weight or by volume.
Examples of mix ratios, by volume, include 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 and 5:1.
The first number in the mix ratio lets you know how much epoxy resin to dispense; the second number indicates the amount of hardener.
For example, if the mix ratio is 2:1, you must measure 2 parts of epoxy resin to 1 part of hardener, by volume.
You can dispense epoxy resin and hardener by pouring them out of the containers, but to make measuring by volume automatic (and easier!), many epoxy systems come with precalibrated epoxy resin and hardener pumps. These pumps are metered to dispense the precise mix ratio (by volume) of resin and hardener for a specific epoxy system. Just press down one full stroke on the resin pump and one full stroke on the hardener pump.
Epoxy resin and hardener can also be measured by weight, using a digital gram scale.
Examples of mix ratios, by weight, include 100A:37B, 100A:38, and 100A:44B.
For example, a mix ratio (by weight) of 100A:37B means you have to measure 100 parts of epoxy resin (Part A) to 37 parts of hardener (Part B). Be sure to tare out the scale before measuring resin and hardener.
