Boat bottom paints are expensive and there are a lot of different types. Considerations for buying antifouling paint include not only cost, but the substrate you're painting, the compatibility of the previous bottom paint with the new bottom paint, how often you use your boat, water conditions (salt water, fresh water, brackish water, etc.), water temperature (more fouling occurs in warmer waters), and environmental regulations, such as restrictions on copper content and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Each bottom paint manufacturer has a compatibility chart showing the compatibility of their bottom paints with those of other brands. Be sure to take a look at the compatibility chart before making your final decision.
Here are TotalBoat bottom paints recommended for different conditions. For more details about choosing the right bottom paint for your boat and boating conditions, take a look at Which Bottom Paint Should I Use?
