Fish eyes, bumps, or voids in the finish of TotalBoat Halcyon Water-Based Marine Varnish can be caused by surface contamination. To help prevent this, always clean the surface with a clean cotton cloth and water before applying varnish.
Contamination may come from the work area or from dried particles in the brush. Always work in a clean area and clean the brush thoroughly before application. Before brushing, dab the dry brush on tape to make sure there are no contaminants on the bristles.
Bubbles can also be created when rolling. To avoid bubbles, use a light touch and tip with a brush immediately after applying, before the varnish begins to dry.
If bubbles appear on the surface, sand smooth with 220- or 320-grit sandpaper, clean with a damp cotton cloth, and reapply.
