TotalBoat Spartan is an ideal bottom paint for boats that are operated at faster speeds, like racing boats, because it can be burnished to increase hull smoothness and speed. To burnish Spartan, you can wet sand or use a Scotch-Brite® type pad. Always use the least abrasive or finest grit sandpaper that adequately polishes the surface, and be very careful that you don't remove too much bottom paint.
It's easier to burnish the boat while it's in the water. While burnishing, you're also removing algae or other growth that may have attached to the bottom.
