Encapsulating unstabilized porous wood in TotalBoat Cast N Turn urethane resin can produce excessive air bubbles, an improper cure. and can result in wood voids that are unintentionally filled with tinted resin. Turning blanks containing weak, unstabilized encapsulated wood can also break apart when turned on a lathe.

You will need to stabilize any piece of wood that’s spongy, spalted, soft or punky (e.g., treel burls or porous wood scraps). To stabilize wood, place it in a vacuum chamber and fill the chamber with a stabilizing resin, such as Cactus Juice. The vacuum pressure will remove the air in the wood and replace it with the stabilizing resin.
