Yes, you can change the color of TotalBoat TotalTread marine paint by mixing in a maximum of 10-25% (by volume) of TotalBoat Wet Edge high-gloss topside paint. Wet Edge is available in 22 colors, and provides a broad range of potential TotalTread colors. Do not use any other coloring agents, pigment dispersions, universal pigments, or tinting additives to change the color of TotalBoat TotalTread because these products are not compatible.
Note that as you add more Wet Edge to TotalTread (to a maximum amount of 25%), the finish will become slightly glossier and the concentration of non-skid particles is reduced. A higher gloss level means the surface will be shinier, causing solar glare and posing a greater slip hazard on wet decks. Also, to compensate for the reduced concentration of non-skid particles, you may need to apply an extra coat of paint to get the non-skid texture you want.
Once you achieve the desired color, apply a coat of TotalTread and wait 24 hours for it to dry. At this time, without taking color into consideration, observe the sheen of the dried paint. If the surface is shinier than you want it to be, add a flattening agent designed for solvent/oil-based 1-part marine topside paints to your custom TotalTread color to reduce gloss as desired, and apply another coat. If additional texture is desired, apply one or two additional coats, until the surface has the desired amount of slip resistance.
We recommend creating a small sample board to test if your customized TotalTread non-skid paint achieves the desired color and textured finish prior to applying it to the main project.
