Ultimately, coverage will be dependant on the work area and both number and depth of layers. However, there are some easy standards to help guide for total amount needed for your project.
When applying TotalBoat Gelcoat, a gallon can cover approximately 12.8 square feet at 1/8" thickness, 25.7 square feet at 1/16" thickness, and 51.3 square feet at 1/32" thickness.
For a quart of TotalBoat Gelcoat, expect around 1/4 of the coverage compared to a gallon at the same specified thickness.
It's important to note that the estimated coverage does not include potential waste on brushes, tools, or in the container. Typically, accounting for a 10% loss due to waste is advisable. The addition of solvents or thinners will not increase the coverage. The variance in coverage between gelcoat with or without wax is negligible.
