We do not recommend applying TotalBoat Lust marine varnish over Minwax stain due to adhesion problems - Lust just doesn't stick properly to Minwax stain, varnish, or other Minwax products for wood finishing because the Minwax products are formulated specifically to work with the products in that system.

In general, you can apply Lust varnish over most other types of stain products., but be sure to do a test first in a small, inconspicuous area to ensure proper adhesion and desired results.
